Memorial Day weekend typically begins what’s known as the ‘100 deadliest days’ on the road.

In 2019, 136 people died in car crashes between Memorial Day and Labor Day, which is about 37% of all traffic deaths in Minnesota last year, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

Even though there are fewer people on the roads because of the COVID-19 pandemic, state officials are still reminding people to drive smart and save lives.

DPS said there will be extra law enforcement teams on the roads from now through the end of summer.
