A first responder in rural Minnesota died earlier this week, according to a community newspaper.

The Kerkhoven Banner reports 57-year-old Dean Nichols, a volunteer EMT and city maintenance worker for over 20 years, died after suffering a medical emergency Monday morning.

Nichols died the same day as Howard Lake Fire Chief Daryl "Taddy" Drusch, who died of a suspected heart attack hours after responding to an emergency call.
