Every Wednesday at 6:50 p.m. during the school year, we recognize a high school athlete or team with our TRIA Prep Salute. This week’s honoree is from White Bear Lake high school.
Senior Derrick Smith is one of the best pitchers in the state — we saw him recently dominate vs. Irondale.

Smith will play for North Carolina St. next season. Any Minnesota high school player that earns a chance to play in the ACC deserves praise.
