Shoemaker signs 1-year, $2 million deal with Twins

The Minnesota Twins have signed right-handed starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker, a source tells KSTP’s Darren Wolfson.

It’s a one-year deal worth $2 million. Shoemaker, 34, is expected to battle for the fifth starter job in the Twins rotation with Randy Dobnak, Lewis Thorpe, and Devin Smeltzer.

Shoemaker has been injury-riddled over the past few seasons. His best year was 2014 when he went 16-4 with a 3.04 ERA in 27 games (20 starts) with the Angels.

In 2019, Shoemaker was off to a 3-0 start (1.57 ERA) with Toronto before tearing the ACL in his left knee. He posted a 4.57 ERA in six starts with the Blue Jays in 2020. He also started a playoff game for Toronto in its opening round series loss vs. Tampa.
