Wild re-sign goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen to 2-year deal

On Monday, the Minnesota Wild announced the resigning of goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen to a two-year contract (two-way contract for $700,000/$250,000 in 2020-21 and one-way contract for $750,000 in 2021-22).

According to the organization, the 24-year-old went 25-6-3 with a 2.07 goals-against average, a .927 save percentage and seven shutouts in 34 games with the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL) this season. He also led the AHL in wins and shutouts; ranking fourth in goals-against average and save percentage.

Kahkonen was the winner of the Aldege "Baz" Bastien Memorial Award as AHL's outstanding goaltender and named to the AHL's First All-Star Team.

The Finland-native allowed two goals or less in 22 of his 34 contests and was named Goaltender of the Month for February.
