Lynx name Clare Duwelius as new GM

The Minnesota Lynx have a new general manager.

Tuesday, the organization announced that Clare Duwelius has been promoted to the role, making her the fourth general manager in franchise history.

Her promotion comes just over a month after the franchise elevated Cheryl Reeve to president of basketball operations. Reeve had served as the team’s general manager since 2017.

“I have long felt that Clare Duwelius was one of our top free agent signings. Since 2014, she has proven to be an invaluable resource in every aspect of the Lynx franchise,” Reeve said in a statement. “Clare epitomizes all that the Lynx stand for in her passion, drive, work ethic, commitment, loyalty, and attention to detail. I look forward to partnering with Clare in her work as General Manager for the Lynx as she continues to make her mark on our franchise.”

“I could not be more excited for the opportunity to take on this new role with the Minnesota Lynx. Throughout my time with this incredible franchise, I have seen the epitome of hard work, passion, and what it takes to compete at the highest level on and off the court,” Duwelius said. “I am thrilled to help continue that legacy and build on the success the Lynx have achieved. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Coach Reeve, Glen and Becky Taylor and the entire Lynx organization for their belief in me.”

The upcoming season will be Duwelius’ 10th with the Lynx. She’d been the assistant general manager for the past five years, helping Reeve with all day-to-day tasks of basketball operations.

She first joined the organization as a basketball operations coordinator before moving to basketball operations manager and then the assistant general manager role.
