Gophers’ Morgan, Ibrahim named to Maxwell Award watch list

Two University of Minnesota football players have been named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award, which is given each year to the most outstanding player.

Gophers quarterback Tanner Morgan and running back Mohamed Ibrahim were named to the watch list on Monday.

A total of 80 players are named on the list, and Minnesota is one of just 14 schools to have two players recognized.

Ibrahim was the Big Ten Running Back of the Year after leading the conference in several statistical categories.

Morgan is 18-8 as a starter and owns 11 school season and game records. He was an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention last year.

Minnesota opens its season on Sept. 2 against Ohio State.
