Gable Steveson to return to Minnesota for senior wrestling season, signs with WWE

Gable Steveson will be returning to Minnesota for his senior wrestling season and has also signed with World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc., (WWE).

Steveson became the first Gopher wrestler in program history to win an Olympic gold medal when he defeated Georgia’s Geno Petriashvili 10-8 in the men’s freestyle 125-kilogram class in the Tokyo Olympics.

Steveson will spearhead the Gophers lineup for the 2021-22 season. According to the University of Minnesota, Steveson is the winningest wrestler in the program’s history and will work to become the eight wrestler in the program’s history with three conference titles and the sixth with multiple NCAA titles.

Steveson also announced Thursday he has signed with WWE to be part of a roster while he also finishes college.

"Childhood dream accomplished," Steveson wrote in a tweet, adding, "Thank you for the opportunity!!"
