No. 4 Hill-Murray girls hockey defeats No. 5 Benilde-St. Margaret’s

The No. 4 Hill-Murray Pioneers girls hockey team defeated the No. 5 Benilde-St. Margaret’s Red Knights 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Aldrich Ice Arena.

After a scoreless first period, Hill-Murray’s freshman forward Chloe Boreen scored off an assist from junior Olivia Boyer, to make it a 1-0 game with 2:44 left in the second period.

In the third period, the Pioneers struck again when senior captain Ava Stinnett scored off a beautiful assist from junior Allie Franco, making it 2-0 Hill-Murray with 13:07 left in the game.

A minute later, the Pioneers were on a power play following a Benilde-St. Margaret’s penalty. 11 seconds into the power play, the Red Knights scored when junior Emma Hoen stole a pass and scored on a fastbreak to make it 2-1 with 12:05 remaining.

But, Hill-Murray scored again when senior forward Lorelai VanGuilder found the back of the net off a faceoff, making it 3-1 with 4:57 left in the game.

Hill-Murray’s freshman goaltender Grace Zhan held strong to give the Pioneers the 3-1 victory.
