No. 2 Edina girls hockey outlasts No. 3 Minnetonka

The No. 2 Edina Hornets girls hockey team defeated the No. 3 Minnetonka Skippers 3-2, Tuesday evening at Braemar Arena.

The Hornets scored first when junior Berit Lindborg scored on an assist from sophomore Lauren Zawoyski to put Edina up 1-0 with 8:39 left in the first. Just over a minute later, Edina senior, and Gopher commit, Emma Conner stole the puck from Minnetonka, passed it back-and-forth with freshman teammate Hannah Halverson, and scored to make it 2-0 Hornets with 7:11 left in the first.

Minnetonka would answer in the second. Following an Edina penalty, Skippers freshman Lindzi Avar scored a minute into the power play, off a Grace Sadura assist, making the score 2-1 Edina with 11:06 left in the second period.

Then in the third period, Minnetonka tied the game at 2 off the stick of Sadura, with 10:54 remaining in the game. But, off the next faceoff, Edina answered back when junior Vivian Jungels assisted Zawoyski to put the Hornets up 3-2 just 15 seconds later.

Edina’s sophomore goaltender Uma Corniea held strong, improving Edina to 6-0 on the season.
