Walton chose North Carolina from a final list that included Minnesota, Arizona, Georgetown, Creighton, and Vanderbilt.

He was among a star-studded 2020 Minnesota high school class. All the in-state talent turned down Richard Pitino and the Gophers. That list includes Walton, Jalen Suggs (Gonzaga), Dawson Garcia (Marquette), Ben Carlson (Wisconsin), Steven Crowl (Wisconsin), Gabe Madsen (Cincinnati), and Dain Dainja (Baylor),

However, Pitino and the Gophers have signed Jamal Mashburn Jr., MarTice Mitchell, and nabbed transfers Liam Robbins and Brandon Johnson. If Robbins is eligible immediately, all four should contribute plenty next season.
