White Bear jumped out on the Pioneers in the first 30 seconds of the game when senior wing Sam Newpower put one in the back of the net to put the Bears up 1-0.

In the second, White Bear struck again when Newpower scored his second goal of the game to make it a 2-0 game with just over 14 minutes left in the second period.

However, Hill-Murray wouldn’t quit. Senior forward Charlie Strobel scored to put the Pioneers on the board with 4:58 left in the second period. Then, fellow senior forward Owen Quast added a goal of his own to tie it up with just over one minute left in the second period.

The final period was highly contested between both teams. White Bear Lake was on a power play when Hill-Murray’s sophomore forward Nick Pierre got a breakaway and took full advantage of it by scoring the short-handed goal to put the Pioneers up 3-2 with 5:49 left in the game.

White Bear Lake made one last late push, but the Pioneers held on for a 3-2 victory.
