Several cited after weekend brush fires

Dry and windy conditions helped the spread of multiple brush fires across the state over the weekend. Several counties also were on the burning restrictions list due to the conditions.

Hubbard Broadcasting affiliate KAAL-TV reports the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office responded to a brush fire in the 11000 block of 110th Avenue Northwest in New Haven Township at around 1:13 p.m. Deputies said the 75-year-old homeowner was burning tree stumps when flames got out of control.

Firefighters responded and put out the fire. Deputies said the homeowner was cited for not having a burn permit.

Later that afternoon, authorities were called to the 700 block of Windermere Court in Oronoco on a report of a brush fire. Deputies said a 39-year-old was burning tree stumps when the fire got out of control and spread to a nearby outbuilding.

Firefighters responded and extinguished the flames.

Then, on Sunday at about 1 p.m., authorities were called to the 11000 block of County Road 10 Southeast for a brush fire.

Again, a 67-year-old homeowner was burning tree stumps and brush when the fire got out of control.
