Companion Animal Control is warning people of recent pet poisoning cases that have led to five cats, three dogs and seven squirrels dying in just the past week.

The cases occurred in the Baytown Township, Lake Elmo and Hugo areas, according to Companion Animal Control.

Companion said none of the cases have shown evidence of intentional poisoning so the assumption is people are putting out rodent poisoning as temperatures drop.

Pet owners are urged to watch their animals closely when they're outside to ensure they don't eat something that's potentially poisonous. Anyone who believes their pet may have been poisoned should take them to get immediate care.
