A Minneapolis woman was sentenced this week to roughly three years in prison in connection with a fatal 2019 shooting that happened in St. Paul.

Markeia Felicity Carlvin was sentenced in Ramsey County after pleading guilty to, and being convicted of, second-degree manslaughter.

On Aug. 19, 2019, authorities were called to a residence, operating as an Airbnb, along Sims Avenue on a report of a man who had been shot.

A witness at the scene told authorities Carlvin had rented the Airbnb for her birthday party.

The witness said the victim had two handguns with him at the house and that she, Carlvin and the victim had been taking photos with them. A complaint filed at the time stated the witness told police at one point Carlvin picked up one of the guns, racked it, pointed it at the victim and fired once, striking the victim in the chest.

The complaint stated the witness told police it was an accident.

Per the sentencing, Carlvin will be required to serve two-thirds of her sentence in prison, with the option for supervised release following.

Carlvin will receive credit for 127 days served.
