Two people died early Friday morning after a crash in Polk County, Wisconsin.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office said it received a report of a head-on crash on State Highway 48, east of County Road E at 60th Street, at about 4:59 a.m.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they found a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling west was in the wrong lane of travel and had collided head-on with a 2011 Ford Ranger traveling eastbound on Highway 48. Both vehicles were heavily damaged.
After the crash, the Jeep came to rest in the roadway while the Ford entered the east ditch and overturned.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff's office said.
The driver of the Jeep was later identified as 31-year-old Frederick T. Gurtner, of rural Cumberland. The driver of the Ford was identified as 76-year-old Duane L. Fox, of Balsam Lake.
