Authorities say one person has been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred in rural Meeker County Friday.

The Meeker County Sheriff's Office also identified the victim as 42-year-old Devon Remmel. The sheriff's office said Remmel's death has been ruled a homicide by the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office.

An investigation revealed a confrontation occurred at a residence on 545th Avenue involving multiple people. During the confrontation, Remmel was shot. He was pronounced dead after first responders arrived at the scene.

Authorities initiated a search warrant at a home in Hutchinson in connection to the event Sunday. Twenty-three-year-old Byron Jackson was later arrested in connection to the incident. 

He is being held in the Meeker County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault. Formal charges are pending.

Then, on Monday, at about 9:50 p.m., 23-year-old Christian Brown, of Hutchinson, was arrested for second-degree murder and second-degree assault. He was identified as the person who shot Remmel on Feb. 26. Brown was arrested without incident.

He is currently being held on an arrest warrant.

The Meeker County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the incident.
