Weekend closures: Southbound I-35W in Burnsville, I-494 in Mendota Heights Oct. 7-10

Drivers who use Interstate 35W in the Burnsville and Bloomington area may need to find an alternate route Friday night.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) will close all southbound lanes of I-35W from I-494 to Burnsville Parkway starting at 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10.

The following ramps to southbound I-35W will also close at 9 p.m.:

  • I-494
  • 82nd Street
  • 90th Street
  • 94th Street
  • 98th Street
  • 106th Street
  • Black Dog Road
  • Cliff Road
  • Highway 13

The closure is due to maintenance repairs on the interstate. 

Drivers should follow the posted detour using southbound Cedar Avenue and southbound I-35E.

Another weekend closure will send drivers on a detour route. I-494 westbound in Mendota Heights will close at I-35E starting Friday night.

Starting at 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, westbound I-494 at 35E will close, this includes the northbound and southbound I-35E ramps to I-494 westbound. 

The closure will be in place until 5 a.m., Monday, Oct. 10.

To get around it, follow the signed detour route using I-35E southbound and northbound Cedar Avenue.
