Elton John postpones 2021 ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour’ dates to 2023 due to hip injury

Elton John announced he’s postponing his 2021 "Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour" dates in Europe and the United Kingdom to 2023 due to a significant hip injury that is requiring surgery.

John posted the news on his social media Thursday. In the statement, the 74-year-old says that he fell on a hard surface at the end of his summer break and has been in significant hip pain. He says that while he tried intensive physio and specialist treatment, the pain actually increased, and he was advised to have an operation in order to get back to optimal physical health and avoid further hip complications.

This is the second postponement in the final leg of his three-year-long final farewell tour. The tour started in 2018 in Allentown, Penn. The last leg of the tour was originally scheduled to kick off in 2020 and end in 2021 but was postponed due to the global pandemic.

The musician, known for his piano playing skills and over-the-top on-stage costumes, says he anticipates being back to full physical health to kick off the final U.S. portion of the tour starting in New Orleans in January 2022. John is scheduled to play two shows at Xcel Energy Center on March 22-23, 2022. The concerts are rescheduled from June 15-16, 2020. Tickets are available to the 2022 dates.
