Previous experience Rod joined 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS full-time in September 2004 after freelancing since October 2003. Prior to joining the station, Rod anchored the inaugural FOX Sports Net “Regional Sports Report” in the Northwest and Detroit Regions and hosted KOMO-AM sports in Seattle, Washington. Rod spent 17 years as a lead anchor at KSTW-TV (CBS/UPN) in Seattle; KOIN-TV (CBS) in Portland, Oregon; KJR-AM in Seattle; and KVI-AM in Seattle. As Sports Director at KSTW, he anchored and produced championship Rose Bowl coverage and followed the Seattle Mariners’ A.L. playoff runs from 1995-2001. Rod led coverage of the Seattle Supersonics’ 1996 trip to the NBA Finals against the Chicago Bulls. Rod also worked at KIVI-TV (ABC) Boise, Idaho and KVEW-TV (ABC) Tri Cities.
Awards Rod is a five-time Emmy winner and is the recipient of back-to-back Emmys for Outstanding Sports Anchor (2004 and 2005) in our Midwest (Minnesota) region. Rod has also been honored with an International Gabriel Award, the 2004 Page One Award and three Society of Professional Journalists awards.
Education Rod graduated from Washington State University with a B.A. in Communications with a History minor. Rod is a 1998 charter inductee in the Pasco High School Hall of Fame, Washington.
Associations Rod currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Midwest chapter (Minnesota) of the American Liver Foundation. Rod is also deeply devoted to domestic violence issues, the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Humane Society. Rod is a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Personal interests Rod, wife Pamela, baby Annie and purebred Labrador, Cota, reside in Minneapolis. Their interests include time with family and friends, enjoying a variety of sports, and exploring the Lakes, "nooks and crannies" and outdoor getaways around Minnesota.
